There is a lot of amazing architecture here to counter-balance the mostly plain post-war brick and concrete structures.
But the most interesting thing about Tokyo is people. Twenty-plus million of them. And while the people here may be fairly conservative in dress and style when going to work, on the weekends they can really break out.
Here are just a few shots of people doing what people do here; hanging out, having fun, and of course, being stylish.
- The Finn Air mascot just hanging around outside of a building in Roppongi. There was actually a line to pose with ‘it.’
- Waiting for the train at Ginza station. (L to R: Mr. Excitement, Amy, Annoyed Woman).
- A lot of people smart enough to be in the shade near the Omotesando shopping area.
- ‘I’m Batman.’
- ‘…Well, maybe not. But I do wear his shoes.’
- Scooter on steroids. Kind of a cross between a moped and a Harley.
- Outside Shinegawa Pachinko. Usually there are one or two people outside dancing to draw customers.
- Inside the Pachinko Parlor at Shinegawa Station. When you open the doors, all hell breaks loose.
- Yes, people go out in public dressed this way. To be fair, it was part of a group involved in a festival event.
- This is an unknown mascot at the entrance to Bic Camera (a crazy store that sells electronics and almost everything else). A huge crowd was watching and waiting to take pictures. The four girls are part of the show. The guy in front is being sought for questioning.
- Shoes!!! At a department store where there was a demo of some sort going on inside.
- Everybody loves baseball…especially the Japanese. This outgoing player was waiting with his team to play in a tournament in Yokohama.
- Wear it with pride. The clothes in Tokyo (and especially the shoes) defy description.
